LESSON # Particle Flow Carpet

  • Video – 17:12 min
  • Max files to download
  • Introduction to Particle Flow
  • Creating individual carpet strands
  • Creating custom events within particle flow
  • Controlling particle placement with mapping

This is the image you’ll be able to create at the end of this lesson:

Particle flow within 3DS Max is a great way to simulate special effects in our scenes. Effects such as soft fluffy carpets can be tricky as well as time consuming to achieve without the flexibility and control that particle flow offers.

Watch the next video to learn more about creating custom particle systems and achieving realistic results within 3DS Max.

  • Use organic topology for improved randomization of particle strand orientation
  • Keep the poly count for individual carpet strands as low as possible
  • Control the upper limit for rendered particles within System Management
  • Use a higher density for generated particles on the edges of the carpet using grayscale mapping

Try to visualize how a single type of strand would look in it’s most simplistic form, keeping scale into account. You can create any variation of strands to make up different carpet types.
